Senior Unit Excursion

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Excursion to the SA Museum and St Peter’s Cathedral

As a part of our current Unit of Inquiry, the Senior Unit classes are going on an excursion to the South Australian Museum and St Peter’s Cathedral on Tuesday 6^th June (Week 6). While out and about in the city, we will be exploring how symbols and artifacts help us understand cultural rituals and traditions.

Students will travel by train to the city from Gawler Central (near Coles) train station and will be leaving school at 8:55am. We ask that all students are here at 8:50am to make this possible. We will be back at school for normal pick up time.

We will require some parent helpers to assist on the day.  Please let us know if you can come and join us on this little trip of cultural awareness.

Children will need to bring/wear:

Ø  School sports uniform

Ø  Small back pack (or school bag) to carry Lunch and Recess in disposable bags and Water bottle

Ø  Any medication that is needed

 

Please return the consent form attached by no later than Friday the 2^nd June.

Well now that camp is over, it is time to get back to it and push hard to complete the term off in the most positive and productive way.

One purpose is the museum, 

Considering how a people 'Dream'.

Then strolling to a place of religion,

A cathedral full of symbols and vision.

All to inspire students to delve

Into How We Express Ourselves.

Uniform

Generally our students wear the school uniform well, however last week students were been reminded about the school's uniform policy, especially the finer details.

eg.       plain white socks

            no nail polish

            appropriate earrings

            black shoes

            hair ties (coloured green, blue, white, brown or black only

Teachers will send home a Uniform note if a student is not dressed correctly.

Cabaret & Art Exhibition - Friday 16th June  - 7pm  to 10pm in Taikondi at Immanuel               

·         Be entertained with music and other performances from our talented students and staff and visitors

·         Enjoy some cheese, wine and desserts

·         Mr Hueppauff will be auditioning students this Mon, Tues, Weds

Art Competition for Cabaret Night

·         All Immanuel students are invited to submit a piece of art for our annual Art Competition that is run in conjunction with our Cabaret Night.

·         Pieces of art are to be submitted to the front office by the end of the day on Tuesday 13th June.

·         Art will be judged at the Cabaret night and a prize of $5 awarded to the ‘most creative’ piece from each year level.

Whole school reminders/updates Week 4

 

Toys, Fidgets and Fidget Spinners – at Immanuel we recognise that some children have and need fidgets to help them in their class work and setting. For these children the need for a fidget is documented on their Personal Learning Plan (PLP) and Individual Needs Summary (INS). However, we have a number of children who are bringing in ‘fidget spinners’ and a lot of other toys and items from home. We ask that parents / caregivers remind children not to bring these items to school due to the issues they can sometimes cause. ‘Fidget Spinners’ are considered a toy (unless they are on an Personal Learning Plan and Individual Needs Summary) and are not to be brought to school please.

 

Olives- our neighbour Brian Thom has some olive trees that have fruit to give away (Oil olives).

Wordsmiths

The Wordsmiths is a group of students who are looking into the English language to find roots and origins of words. They are also creating activities that help look into the English language.

Here is a taste of the wordsmiths work.

The ‘kn’ sound is quite interesting because, as you may have noticed, people don’t actually say the ‘k’. Examples include ‘knife’ and ‘knight’. But why is it like that?

 

To put it simply, it’s really mostly because it’s much easier to say words with a kn using just the n part instead of kn. For example, it’s a lot easier to say knight like ‘night’ instead of saying it like ‘ka-night’, if that makes sense. However, for a long time people actually did say both the k and the n. People would say it like ‘ka-nee’ or ‘ka-nife’. Today that probably sounds really weird but people did say it like that. But somewhere around the 1500s, people began to realise it was much more efficient just to say the ‘n’ instead of the ‘k’ and the ‘n’. So, soon enough, the trend began to spread and the silent k became the norm. Interestingly, the words didn’t change and so that is how we got the mysterious ‘kn’ sound.

Unit Of Inquiry

This week we are working on our final task for our current Unit of Inquiry. Task sheet can be found below for a reminder of what needs to be accomplished.

We are looking forward to seeing the creative ways of presentation.

Social Event

On Friday after school the Class Carers have organised a get together at Clonlea park. A note went home last week to families. It will be a great chance to meet families and have a chat.

Senior Unit Update Week 1 Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2 and we hope that everyone had a great break. Now it's time to get back into it.

Hats

Term 2 and 3 we no longer need to wear hats when outside.

 

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing will take place next week Tuesday-Thursday. An information letter will be coming home with Year 7's this week.

 

CAMP

Camp is in week 4 this term. Notes went out last term and are due back by the end of the week. It will be a great time.

Mr Simon Wundersitz is Deputy Principal this term, whilst Mr Helbig is Acting Principal at St Jakobi. 

Welcome to Charmaine Adams and Steve Paech who will fill in Mr Wundersitz role and teach PE on Weds, Thurs, Fri. 

Welcome back Mrs Panagiotou - working on a Tuesday and Thursday in the Chaplaincy role.

Welcome to Sue Schmidt a Lutheran Schools Officer working mainly with the year 1 classrooms.       

 

Winter formal uniform - is to be worn in term 2  

Hats do not need to be worn in term 2 (as the UV rating is usually below 3)

New uniform items can be purchased via the office.  Second hand stall is open Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. 

 

Volunteers Needed to help with the SAKGP: 

·         Every Tuesday from 9:30-10:30am and/or 11-12pm in the garden with Mr Wundersitz

·         Every Wednesday 11:30-1pm and/or 1:45- 3:15pm in the kitchen with year 4/5 and Miss Freund

·         No volunteers badge or experience needed - just come for a look first if you want!
