When we arrived we had a surprise visit from the state Premier, Jay Weatherill. He gave us an introduction to the day and spoke a bit about being a leader. Then we got into the set speakers for the day.

Our first speaker was Sam Skinner, she is the director of Young Leader’s Day. She spoke about our core values as a leader, we did an activity were we had to choose 5 core values and narrow them down to one. She told us that being a leader will not be easy and that we will know if we made the right decision.

Kimberley Marshall was supposed to be our second speaker but she recently had a child. But we still did her activity we had to choose a problem think about it and find a solution. For example a problem is homelessness and a thought is how can we help and our solution could be bringing them food.

We then had a speech by Kick In My Boots, an organisation run by two boys who went last year to Young Leader’s Day. They donated footy boots to the indigenous people in outback Australia.

1. Be persistent
2. People are important
3. Find your passion and practice
4. Perception is everything
5. The power of imagination

She was nervous but she said you only get nervous if you care. She said that the saying treat people the way you want to be treated is stupid, she thinks that you should ask them how they want to be treated and treat them that way
