Welcome to week 4. It is full steam ahead in the Senior Unit now and here is a run down of the things that are happening.
Library
The library is open for business this week and we look forward to heading in and getting our hands on some new reading material. Library day is Wednesday so remember to bring your books along. Hey wait a minute, if you still have school books they are very late.

Spelling
This week we are starting to look at silent e.
Here are the 2 rules we are looking at:
Reasons for a Silent E
1- Allows the c to say s and the g to say j
2- All syllables must have a vowel

SILENT "E" IN MOST ENGLISH WORDS???
There are many different words that have that Silent E at the end of a word. For example like crusade, lemonade, serpentine, salute and plenty of others. Many people like to call this Silent E a "Magic E". There are many origins for each word that includes the Silent E, but the most common origin in each of the Silent E words is French. "Typically it represents a vowel sound that was formerly pronounced, but became silent in late Middle English or Early Modern English. The Silent E converts a short vowel to a long vowel, e.g. Rid and Ride" says the Oxford Dictionary.
